Omar Karabulut (born 1995, Poland) – dancer, choreographer, performer, and educator of Polish-Turkish descent, living between Belgium and Poland. Graduate of the Dance Theatre Department in Bytom at the Academy of Theatre Arts in Krakow (Poland). Recipient of scholarships from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage (Poland), the Mayor of EÅ‚k (Poland), and the National Recovery Plan. He has worked as an independent artist, in ensembles, and within collective structures. Omar has realized artistic projects in Poland, China, India, Israel, Turkey, Belgium, and the Netherlands.
He has taught regular classes at the Karol Szymanowski Academy of Music in Katowice (Poland) and conducted workshops at Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University in Istanbul (Turkey). He regularly improvises on the improvised dance stage of [SIC!] Saute (Poland). Currently, he is a dancer of WArd/waRD – Ann Van den Broek Company (Belgium/Netherlands).
He is interested in the body in a state of readiness – attentive, sensing, responsive, and initiating. Omar brings this attentiveness and readiness into his artistic practice – not only as a performer, choreographer, and teacher, but also as a facilitator of group processes. For him, sensuality and direct engagement with reality form the foundation for building relationships and serve as a source for movement and choreographic exploration.
Recently, he has been developing a personal artistic process focused on exploring his own identity. Raised in Poland, he gradually immerses himself in Turkish culture, investigates his roots, and reinterprets customs and traditions that had long remained distant or unfamiliar to him. He deliberately places himself in situations of discomfort, lack, and uncertainty, treating them as a valuable starting point for creative work.
